Goat Babies Everywhere!

The barnyard is now filled with the wonderful sound of goat baby cries! Dolly had a very large buckling on February 9th who I named Rooster, after Rooster Cogburn of course. Oakley had her babies on March 7th without me! Thanks to that German quiz. One buckling and one doeling of equal size, probably half the size of Rooster when he was born! I named the buckling Quigley and the doeling Maple. I've established themes for the names of my new goats. They are as follows:

Girl goats: Names of plants and trees (ie. Sage, Oak, Maple)
Boy goats: Names of characters from Western movies (ie. Woodrow from Lonesome Dove, Rooster from True Grit, Quigley from Quigley Down Under)

Horses get named whatever fits them, same with dogs. Chickens don't have names yet but I've been considering naming them things like Thelma, Louise, Myrtle, Patsy, and other outdated old lady names.

Speaking of chickens, I now have 14 of them. Four hens and two roosters from last year, plus eight chicks I bought a few weeks ago. I'm praying that all my chicks are hens! The breakdown:

2 Rhode Island Red hens
2 Black Sexlink hens
1 Black Australorp rooster
2 Black Australorp chicks
1 Buff Orpington rooster
1 Buff Orpington chick
2 Auracana chicks
3 Barred Plymouth Rock chicks

I now have two horses. We bought an older dun mare who we named Cheyenne in February. She is to be my mom's horse, but she needs some work. She's a little shy around people but quickly became the queen of horse corral. I'm trying to put her on a diet but she steals food from Red, so it's not working too well.

I have had disbudding success this year so far! I disbudded Rooster in Feb. and there are no signs of horns growing *crosses fingers*! I did Quigley and Maple yesterday and it went well. I think I did a good job. I hope!
